Flexsource NI are working in partnership with the Agrifood and Bioscience Institute (AFBI) to hire a Scientific Officer in Pesticide Usage and Vector Surveillance.
This is a temporary – full time position for up to 7 months, based in the Newforge area of Belfast.
Main Duties:
· Identify and classify vector insect species collected through field-based monitoring programmes.
· Apply laboratory techniques and scientific identification methods to support research and surveillance projects.
· Prepare, process, preserve, and catalogue specimens in accordance with laboratory quality standards.
· Maintain accurate records and databases of findings, contributing to national monitoring and disease surveillance activities.
· Support environmental and animal health research through the collection of high-quality scientific data.
· Work collaboratively with researchers and technical specialists in a dynamic laboratory environment.
Criteria:
· Possess a minimum of 2 A Levels, one of which is in a scientific field
· 2 years demonstratable experience working with microscopes
· 2 years experience working with insect morphological identification
