Flexsource NI are currently recruiting for Environmental Health Officers in the Newry and Downpatrick area’s on full time, temporary assignments, paying £21.24 per hour.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections, visits and investigations across environmental health functions including food safety, health & safety at work, housing, environmental protection, tobacco control, consumer protection and public health.
  • Investigate complaints and enquiries, ensuring responses meet service standards and performance targets.
  • Deliver sampling programmes, surveys and monitoring activities, analysing results and taking appropriate follow-up or enforcement action.
  • Assess and provide professional input on planning and building control consultations, advising on environmental and public health impacts.
  • Prepare technical reports, evidence and documentation, including reports for Council and committee meetings.
  • Gather and retain evidence in accordance with relevant legislation and attend court proceedings as a witness when required.
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders, elected members, contractors, statutory agencies and community groups.
  • Support environmental health projects, funding applications and monitoring returns within the service area.
  • Participate in incident response and emergency situations, including support outside normal working hours when required.
  • Assist with training, awareness activities and mentoring of students, work placements and new staff where required.

Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • A recognised qualification in Environmental Health that meets the requirements for professional practice.
  • Relevant experience working within Environmental Health services, including inspections, investigations and regulatory enforcement.
  • Knowledge of environmental health legislation, codes of practice and regulatory procedures.
  • Experience preparing technical reports and providing professional advice.
  • Strong communication, analytical and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to interpret legislation and implement appropriate enforcement action where required.
  • Full current driving licence and access to transport to meet the requirements of the post
