Flexsource NI are currently recruiting for a Head of Waste Processing, Enforcement & Business Support on a temporary fulltime basis, covering the Newry and Downpatrick area’s with a starting salary of £27.60 per hour

Responsibilities:

With a full job description available upon request, you will;

·        Support the Assistant Director in leading a high-performing Waste Management team and contribute to the department’s strategic goals and operational efficiency.

·        Manage landfill site operations (including closure/restoration), Household Recycling Centres (HRCs), and associated waste processing contracts, ensuring compliance with NIEA licences and statutory targets.

·        Lead recycling and waste processing strategies to meet legislative requirements and performance targets while identifying innovative practices for continuous service improvement.

·        Develop, manage, and monitor waste contracts and procurement processes; oversee accurate waste data collection, reporting, and analysis to regulatory bodies.

·        Oversee enforcement related to illegal dumping, littering, and anti-social behaviour, ensuring statutory obligations are met and legal actions taken where required.

·        Lead, manage, and develop team members through performance management, training, and compliance with council HR policies and procedures.

·        Monitor and manage departmental budgets, authorise expenditures, and ensure adherence to procurement and financial control policies.

·        Drive service improvement initiatives, remain informed on legislative changes, and ensure compliance with Health & Safety, governance, and risk management practices.

Requirements:

·        Degree level qualification in a relevant discipline

·        2+ years experience in a management level position

·        Experience to include; Leading and developing programmes/projects, management of licensing or enforcement function, management of staff and budgets, preparing and presenting reports to committees

·        Have experience delivering a variety of projects simultaneously

·        Experience in developing and maintaining working relationships with a range of groups and individuals

·        Knowledge of legislative frameworks relating to waste management, and health and safety

·        A full current driving licence and access to a car for business use
